Refried Beans … My Version is one of the most popular of current trending foods on earth. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. It is enjoyed by millions daily. They’re fine and they look fantastic. Refried Beans … My Version is something which I have loved my entire life.
It's naturally gluten-free, vegetarian and can also be made vegan if you'd like. And most importantly, it tastes sooo much better than the canned stuff!<br />. I prefer the taste of refried beans that use bacon grease or lard, but these aren't bad and are certainly healthier.
To begin with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook refried beans … my version using 9 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Refried Beans … My Version:
- Take 1 lb bag dry pinto beans
- Get 2 tbsp grape seed oil
- Take 1 large diced red or white onion
- Make ready 2 1/2 tbsp jarred minced garlic
- Get 1 salt and pepper to taste
- Take 1 tbsp fresh minced cilantro ( optional )
- Make ready 1/2 cup shredded mexican cheese
- Get 1 water.. see directions.
- Take 1 1/2 tbsp mexican chili powder (or regular if u don't have it)
Before we get to the recipe, it's worth heading back in time to see what refried beans were like a few hundred years ago… We wanted to try making some refried beans, and they turned out amazing! We like to garnish it with cotija cheese, but shredded cheese takes. If you love the flavor of refried beans but would rather avoid the lard they are typically cooked in, you'll love this easy, fat-free version made in the Instant Pot. These healthy refried beans are the perfect side dish for any of these dishes.
Steps to make Refried Beans … My Version:
- pick beans by taking out bad beans, rocks, dirt, etc.. rinse beans well.
- place beans in a pot with 9 cups of water.
- bring beans to a boil and lower to a simmer.
- simmer for 3 hours.. stirring frequently and adding more water as neccessary. when beans are cooked through do not add more water. let it cook down so it thick and resembling chunky refried beans.
- in a skillet place onion, oil and garlic. saute until onion is transparent and cooked through. add salt,pepper and chili powder.
- mix well. then add beans.. mash beans with rest of ingredients.
- fry and mix for 10 - 15 minutes. scraping bottom and sides. stirr a lot so it doesn't burn.
- when heated through and all mashed up. transfer to a serving bowl. sprinkle with cheese and minced cilantro.
- note: if u don't have mexican chili powder regular chili powder is fine. if u don't have cilantro u can sub for minced fresh parsely. if u don't have grape seed oil u can sub for olive oil or veggie oil.
- I forgot to take a final complete picture as I was hungry.. lol. so I just have the crappy picture up.. sorry.. ill get a good one later. :)

Pinto beans: refried beans are usually made with pinto beans but black beans can also be used. Fully endorsed by my native Texan husband. (They are made with bacon and bacon grease, as per tradition.
