Fish is one of the favorite sea foods at home and most times it is the fish fry or the pepper fish that is made as they are quick to make. I rarely make fish curry at home in Singapore as we do not like the taste of the variety we get here.

The ingredients needed to make Fish curry:
  1. Get 1 Tilapia fish (you can follow this recipe for any kind of fish)
  2. Take 1 medium size onion
  3. Get 1 large tomato
  4. Get 1 tsp garlic paste or chopped fresh garlic
  5. Take 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  6. Prepare 1/4 tbsp chilli powder
  7. Take 1 tbsp tomato paste
  8. Make ready to taste Salt
  9. Get Hand full of fresh coriander
  10. Take 2 tbsp cooking oil

I learned this recipe from my mother-in-law, who is a master in cooking this recipe. Try this curry with plain steamed rice–you'll love it. Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary. Serve the curry with rice in warmed serving bowls, sprinkled with toasted desiccated coconut, if using.

Instructions to make Fish curry:
  1. First marinade the fish for 10 to 15mins with pinch of salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder also few drops of soya sauce(optional)
  2. Heat a frying pan & pour oil. Fry the fish both side. Don’t fry them too much. Now keep them in a plate. In the same frying pan add onion, garlic and little bit of oil. Fry them until they get soft. Now add rest of the ingredients. Cook them for 15 minutes on medium heat. When the spices will be well cooked add those fried fish.
  3. Now add 1/2 cup of water and cover with lid. Cook them on medium to low heat for more 15mins. At the end garnish with coriander. You can add some fresh green chilli at the end if you like spicy. Serve with rice or any kind of bread.

It really doesn't get easier than this. All you need is a good fish, curry powder and a few other pantry staples like oil, salt, pepper, etc. I'd love to say that the secret to this curry is my homemade curry powder, but I don't want to scare you away. So, go ahead and use any curry powder you have on hand. This simple curry is a family favourite at our house, and is a great dish to cook if your own family is a little apprehensive about fish.
