Imarti or Amriti (Bengali: অমৃতি) is a Bengali sweet from India. It is made by deep-frying vigna mungo flour batter in a circular flower shape, then soaking in sugar syrup. Alternative names include Amriti, Emarti, Omritti, Amitti, Jahangir and Jhangiri/Jaangiri.

Imarti is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It is easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. It’s appreciated by millions daily. Imarti is something which I’ve loved my entire life. They’re nice and they look fantastic.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook imarti using 5 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Imarti:
  1. Take 1 Cup (urad dal) Black Gram
  2. Get 2 (3 drops) Orange food color
  3. Get 2 tbsp corn starch
  4. Make ready 1 cup sugar
  5. Make ready 1/2 cup water

Imarti and Jalebi are very similar in shape and people often confuse the two. Both are also yellow and orange in color, that's how they have been made traditionally. Even though they look similar, jalebi is made using maida (all purpose flour) while imarti is made with urad dal (split black gram without skin]. Imarti, known in some places as Amriti, is an amazing mithai from Uttar Pradesh.

Steps to make Imarti:
  1. Soak 1 cup Urad dal for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Grind it with little water to make smooth paste.
  3. The batter should not become too thin…add 2 3 drops of orange color, 2 tbps corn starch and stir the batter for 2 min till it becomes fluffy.
  4. Make a cone using Ziploc bag or use a small hole plastic bottle.
  5. Deep fry the imartis from both the sides.
  6. Make a one string consistency sugar syrup. (1 cup sugar + 1/2 cup waater)
  7. Dip the imartis in syrup for 2 min.
  8. Make sure syrup is warm. - Take out from syrup and serve.

A smooth batter of urad is piped out of a cloth bag to make nice, ring-shaped tubes, which are cooked in ghee till crisp and then dipped in sugar syrup. To make this simple imarti recipe at home, just grind some green cardamom into a fine powder and keep aside. Imarti Devi had the same cabinet portfolio in the previous Congress government.
