Instructions to make My Amish Bread:
  1. Add the yeast to the warm water
  2. Add the lard to the warm water not boiling and the salt and sugar and let the lard melt and sugar dissolve
  3. Add the water to the mixing bowl then add 4 cups of flour gradually stirring with a spoon all the time.
  4. If its still liquidy add the other cup of water keep stirring add more water until its sticking together and elasticity springs back when you poke it.
  5. Spread some flour down where you are going to need it into shape. Add a little flour at a time until its not sticky.
  6. Knead it for about 5 minutes. It should be ready
  7. Greace a large bowl and add the bread to it then turn it around so its greased all over cover with a kitchen towel and put it somewgere warm for 3 hours
  8. After the 3 hours it should be twice the size.
  9. Turn it out onto a floured surface and press hard and punch with your knuckles for another 5 minutes
  10. This makes 2 loaves of bread so half it and put the two pieces in greased bowls covered with a towel again for a further 1 + 1/2 hours
  11. After that time add it to two bread tins to bake or a ring tin to make 1 larger loaf of bread.
  12. Brush all the top with egg white which makes it have that nice golden brown shine on the top. Cook in a pre heated oven on medium for 20 minutes check it and if its not golden on top leave it for another 10 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle some dried parsley on top for the finish.
