The ingredients needed to make Sweet Banana Appam:
- Prepare 10-12 : Small banana (Cheru Pazham)
- Take 1/4 cup Rice Flour
- Take 1 tablespoon Maida / All - purpose flour
- Get 1/2 cup melted Jaggery
- Prepare 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon Cardamom powder
- Take 1 pinch Baking soda
- Make ready 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- Make ready 1 cup Oil for Deep frying
Take all ingredients in a bowl and mix well to a thick batter. Heat oil for deep frying, drop small spoonful of batter in and fry till golden brown. Mash the banana well with a fork,In a mixing bowl - add wheat flour,rice flour and banana. Mix well, add water little by little to form a smooth thick batter.
Steps to make Sweet Banana Appam:
- Peel the banana and mash them in a bowl using fork or hand or can blend in a mixie to fine puree. (Banana should be really ripe)
- To the banana puree add in rice flour, maida, salt, cumin powder, cardamom powder, baking soda, melted Jaggery. Mix well with a spoon. The batter should not be too thick nor runny.
- Heat oil in a kadai. Oil should be medium heat. Take spoon full of batter and drop in hot oil one by one. Cook till both side turns golden brown colour. Transfer to a plate lined with kitchen tissue. Repeat the procedure for the rest of the batter.
- The outer part will be crispy and the inner part will be soft.
- Enjoy with tea!!!

Then add cardamom powder and cooking soda give a quick mix. sweet appam recipes are always my favourite and i have shared quite a few recipes in my blog. but i have been receiving a lot authentic kerala cuisine recipes, especially for the onam celebrations. hence i thought of sharing this simple and classic dessert recipe made with basic ingredients like rice, banana, jaggery and coconut chunks. the best part of this recipe is it is made in an appe pan. Heat oil in a small kadai, keep it in medium flame, take a small amount of batter in a table spoon or small ladle and drop it gently into the oil. When it puffs, turn over and cook the other side also till golden brown. Drain the oil using a slotted ladle and take it out from the kadai.
