  1. Make ready 2 cups rice
  2. Get 200 gms Thondli/Kovakai
  3. Take 1/2 cup fresh green peas
  4. Take 2-3 green chillies slit

  6. Get 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  7. Prepare To taste Salt
  8. Take 5 cups Water

  10. Get 21/2-3 tbsp Dhaniya
  11. Get 2 bay leaves
  12. Make ready 3-4 cloves
  13. Take 1/2 tsp pepper
  14. Take 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  15. Take 1 star anise
  16. Take 1 inch size dalchini
  17. Get 2-3 Red chillies
  18. Get 1/2 cup Dry grated coconut
  19. Make ready For seasoning: mustard,jeera and hing
Instructions to make Masale Bath:
  1. Soak the rice for 10 mins and drain the water.Keep it aside.
  2. Now heat a pan.Add dhaniya,bay leaf,cloves,pepper,jeera,star anise and fry on low heat.Keep it aside.Now add 3 tsp grated coconut in pan and fry a bit.Fry red chillies also.Allow it to cool.
  3. Grind all the above ingredients to a coarse powder.
  4. In a pressure cooker pour 4 to 5 tbsp oil.Add mustard seeds,jeera,hing and green chillies.
  5. Add chopped (long shaped) thondli.Add turmeric powder and about 2tbsp grated coconut, little fresh coriander leaves and fresh green peas.Fry it.
  6. Now add 3 tbsp grinded masala.Add rice and fry it for 2 to 3 mins gently.As rice will tend to break.
  7. Now add water.Here my rice is old so i used 5 cups of water for 2cups rice.You can use less or 4 cups water according to the rice.Add salt as per your taste.
  8. Now close the lid and pressure cook on low flame for 3 whistles.
  9. After the pressure releases remove the lid and gently mix the rice.
  10. Authentic Masale bath is ready to eat.Serve with lemon.
