- Add the chopped tomatoes or you can even purée them, add salt as needed, cover and cook well till the tomatoes turn mushy. Add sugar and mix well. Cook for a minute. Drain the rice and add to the masala. Mix well.
- Add water 2:2 1/2 cups ratio, if adding fresh coconut milk add 2 cups of water +1/2 cup of coconut milk. If using coconut milk powder follow the water ratio and add the powder to the cooker itself. Make sure to mix them very well. Taste the water for salt.
- Cover the cooker, and cook for 2 whistles. Switch off the flame. Keep the cooker out off the stove or to unused burner on your stove. Let the pressure goes off. Open the cooker and flip rice with fork or wait for fewer minutes and mix well. Serve hot with onion raita.
